What is it?
A leisurely two day tour, through some wonderful mountain scenery, staying in the highland capital, Inverness. We visit stone circles, look for legends and even spend time in Scotland’s favourite university town, St Andrews.
Accomodation in Inverness
The highland capital is a lively city with lots of pubs and restaurants to suit every ones taste and pocket. There is also a lively traditional music scene.
Day 1
Drive past Stirling Castle, National Wallace Monument and Doune Castle and through the Trossachs, time for coffee and some photos of a living legend, Hamish the 'Hairy Coo'! As we push north the landscape is changing quickly, there are mountains and lochs and stories to tell about highland rouges, like Rob Roy Macgregor. Then we cross Rannoch Moor and on to Glen Coe, often considered one of the most spectacular and beautiful places in Scotland. Next, we head to Glenfinnan Viaduct, used as a location for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. On to Loch Ness, Urquhart Castle and Inverness.
Day 2
From Inverness, we head to Culloden Battle Field and Clava Cairns (4000 year old stone circle). We then drive south through Cairngorm national park stopping for lunch in Pitlochry. After lunch the landscape changes as we head to St Andrews. This beautiful seaside town has award winning beaches, an ancient university, castle, cathedral and is the home of golf. We head south to Edinburgh stopping for a photo of the Forth Rail Bridge (1890) in South Queensferry.
